Chen Lian-ying:Three Patterns of Morality——Arendt's Reflection of Moral Philosophy
From:Chen Lian-ying     Date:2019-02-01    Hits:

Abstract:In order to reflect on the moral lessons of Nazi totalitarianism, Arendt analyzes the original moral experience.Through the method of typicalization, she distinguished three different moral patterns, namely, the ideological morality, the faith morality and the political morality with Socrates, Jesus and Machiavelli as the models. The ideological and moral education is based on the thinking experience of the thinker and takes the inner harmony of thought as the principle. Faith morality is based on the experience of sympathy, and is characterized by selflessness. The core of political morality is the pursuit of honor by actors, and its principle is to care for the world. On this basis, Arendt makes a deep analysis of Kant's moral philosophy and points out that Kant's philosophy contains these three moral concepts at the same time, which is the fundamental reason why it is full of internal tension.
