Abstract:In Ming Dynasty, the phenomenon of the Han people passing themselves off as sangha was quite common, which not only existed widely among the sangha who paid tribute, but also appeared among the high-level sangha in Beijing. From the perspective of intrinsic motivation, this phenomenon appears under the double stimulation of rich reward of tribute and rich profit of commercial activities of tribute monks. From the external conditions, the emergence of this phenomenon is closely related to the lack of in-depth understanding of The Situation in Tibet in the middle and later period of the Ming Dynasty, and the formation of a community of interests between border officials and impostors. The direct consequence of the fake sangha of the Han people in the Ming Dynasty was the emergence of a certain number of Han lamas, who became one of the main participants in the folk Buddhist activities. At the same time, they also participated in the struggle between the Ming Dynasty and the Mongol aristocracy and the later Jin rulers, and became a noteworthy political force in the late Ming Dynasty.
