On September 8, 2020, Zhou Xiaohong, President of Contemporary China Research Institute of Nanjing University, Senior Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences and Special Professor of Changjiang Scholars of the Ministry of Education, made an online academic report for teachers and students of our college entitled ' Social Psychology and Chinese Experience in the Transition Era ' in the form of online live broadcast of Tencent Conference. Zhang Baoming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, was invited to attend. After systematically combing the relevant academic history, Professor Zhou Xiaohong systematically narrates the concept definition and discipline pedigree of social mentality, and explains the rise and fall of social mentality research from the perspective of discipline evolution and paradigm shift. He believes that social transformation practice is ignored whether focusing on the early European research of groups or the mainstream American school of individuals. Then Professor Zhou Xiaohong analyzed the formation mechanism of social mentality through group representation and individual identity in the specific historical period of social transformation from a multidisciplinary perspective. Finally, Professor Zhou Xiaohong points out that it is advocated to establish a research paradigm of social psychology with Chinese characteristics through the analysis of social mentality, and calls for the transformation of Chinese society to be endowed with complete value and significance at the spiritual level through the study of the social mentality of Chinese people in the period of ' Chinese experience '.
