on the afternoon of December 12, Professor Wu Guosheng of Tsinghua University gave an academic lecture on the theme "The Humanities Origins of Science" in the first conference room of the School of Philosophy and Public Administration,which is to make students find out the origin of science, dispel the misunderstanding of science, correctly understand the concept of science, and further improve the academic level of our students.The event was presided over by Professor Zhang Baoming, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of our university, and was attended by some teachers and graduate students from the School of Philosophy and Public Administration.

Using flat language, Professor Wu Guosheng has made a simple explanation of the development of science from the perspective of history, with clear narrative ideas and novel perspectives.Taking the formation process and evolution background of different historical and cultural forms in the East and the West as the main line, he compared and analyzed the theoretical roots of science, distinguished the boundaries of science and technology, the origin of science and humanities in the different cultural backgrounds of China and the West, pointed out the limitations and one-sidedness of science with utilitarian attitude and pragmatism, and highlighted the important theoretical significance of the humanistic meaning of science in the unity of history and logic.Professor Wu Guosheng also systematically analyzed the specific content of science and the fundamental humanistic attributes of science, and made a prospect for the future development of science, suggesting that China should develop science and technology to improve its innovation ability, depending on paying attention to the input of basic disciplines and the advocacy of the idea of non-utilitarian scientific research.

Wu Guosheng, head and professor of the Department of Science History of Tsinghua University, is also a member of the Review Group of science and technology history of the Degree Committee of the State Council, director of the Education Committee of science and technology history of the Chinese Society of Science and Technology History, and director of the Professional Committee of Science Communication and Science Education of the Chinese Society of Natural Dialectics.The main research directions are the history of western scientific thought, the philosophy of esomic science and technical philosophy, and the dissemination of science.The main academic works are "What is Science", "Greek Space Concept", "Technical Philosophy Lecture", "The Concept of Time", "Remembrance of Nature", and there are also four books in Wu Guosheng's Series of science and Humanities (The Course of Science, Thoughts on Modernization, Reflections on Science Lectures, and Science towards Communication).He has won the 6th China Youth Science and Technology Award, the Ministry of Education's Outstanding Young Teacher Award, the doctoral thesis "Technology and Physical Education" won the national outstanding doctoral thesis, the book "The Course of Science" won the "Five Ones" Engineering Award of the Ministry of Central Propaganda, the Beijing Science and Technology Award, and the book "The Concept of Time" won the first prize of the Beijing Philosophical and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award.
