On the afternoon of October 27, at the invitation of our college, Professor Wang Zhongjiang, currently professor of Philosophy Department of Peking University, distinguished professor of Yangtze River scholars of the Ministry of education, and President of the Chinese Confucius society, gave an academic lecture entitled “《Success or failure depends on time》and Confucius’ experience, view of virtue and happiness, and moral autonomy” in the second conference room on the third floor of our college. The activity was presided over by Associate Professor Ye Ping of our college. Some teachers and graduate students of philosophy department participated in the activity together.
Professor Wang Zhongjiang first describes the classification of classic literature, and then gives a brief introduction to the text background, the records of handed down literature and the content of the text. The lecture mainly discusses the relationship between human virtue and happiness, that is, the relationship between virtue and happiness. Wang Zhongjiang starts from the way and motivation of Confucian pursuit of moral truth, and through the realization of Confucius’ situation of “Chen Cai Zhi E”, explains the contrast between Confucius' ideal of "harmony of virtue and happiness" and reality, and expresses the internal strength and Transcendence of Confucianism, that is, in the asymmetry of virtue and happiness, we should persist in pursuing moral truth, strength beyond circumstances, and self realization and value.
At the end of the lecture, Professor Wang Zhongjiang, with his profound knowledge and humorous language, had a positive discussion on the "relationship between virtue and happiness" with his students with full academic enthusiasm. The lecture was full of academic atmosphere and lively atmosphere. Finally, the lecture came to a successful conclusion with the applause of the students.
